Self-Reflection in Food Unit
In this project, we were assigned to create three vegetables: one small, one medium, and one big. In addition, were assigned to create a food platter of any kind of food. I ended up created three peppers, a donut, and a cupcake. The small pepper and the medium pepper were green and the larger cupcake was red, while each had a deep green vine on the top. I learned in the process of completing the peppers that that the peppers must be hallow before putting them into the kilm (or they’ll explode!) My favorite part was once they were fired, it was time to paint the peppers with oil paints. I learned from using this kind of paint that oil paints are extremely messy however good because they don’t splatter like regular paint. I also learned that two colors must be mixed to create a color that really correlates with the subject being painted. I am really proud of the colors I chose; they were very realistic and made the peppers even better. Furthermore, in order to keep everything in order, it was essential to use gloves and clean the brushes correctly. I learned a lot and was very proud how my three peppers came out. As the first ceramics assignment, it only makes me more excited for projects to come. Secondly, I did the donut and the cupcake for the “food” part of the assignment. Already knowledgeable of the mistakes, I was able to create a more refined product. Therefore, in the end I was glad I was able to incorporate the lessons learned from the peppers (discussed earlier) and use them while creating the food.
